The risk increased when citizens from India were admitted without a medical examination

As the number of Nepalis returning to India for employment and study has increased due to the rapid spread of corona infection in India, the risk has increased when citizens from India are admitted without health check-ups.

It is estimated that more than 23,000 Nepali citizens have entered the country in the last two weeks through the Gauriphanta border crossing in Kailali. More than 23,000 people have been repatriated to Nepal so far as the rescue of returning citizens has started from the Nepal-India border at Gauriphanta on May 20.
According to the District Administration Office, Kailali, the highest number of 5,242 people entered Nepal on May 25.

Shivaraj Joshi, information officer at the District Administration Office, Kailali, said that testing could not be arranged at the checkpoint due to lack of materials. "Initially, we tried to reduce the number of entrants, but in a short time, the number of entrants increased and we were forced to stop testing due to lack of medical supplies," said Joshi. He said that they are sending citizens to the concerned local level without any test

Concerns have been raised about the spread of corona virus infection at the community level when returnees from India are sent directly to the municipality without a health check-up. However, the state government has not been able to arrange for the trial.

Chief of Lamkichuha Municipality, Kailali, Mahadev Bajagain expressed dissatisfaction over the state government's decision to send those from risky areas directly to the municipality. He said, "If the state government had given health check-up to the citizens coming from India at the border, it would have been amazing. The fear of infection would have been removed but it did not happen."

Chief of Ghodaghodi Municipality of Kailali Mamata Prasad Chaudhary is also dissatisfied with the work of the state government. Mayor Chaudhary says that there is a problem in management as at least 100 people from India are coming to his municipality every day. In addition, the risk of corona is expected to increase due to lack of proper management, said Chief Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gunaraj Awasthi, health director of the far-western region, said that those who have returned from India will be sent home after being kept in quarantine for 14 days. He said the scope of testing would increase as far-western health supplies were being procured.
