Birgunj: Indian security personnel have entered Nepal and demolished a road constructed for the operation of a bridge which was not used even after two years of its completion. The road was constructed three days ago for the operation of the Thute Khola bridge connecting wards 2 and 3 of Thori village municipality of Parsa.
On Thursday evening, Indian Border Security Force, Bihar Sahodar Police Station and Indian nationals on the border demolished the road. The people of Thori had protested when they came to know that the Indians were destroying the road. After some arguing, Indian police and civilians returned. The Nepali side has re-filled the soil on the damaged road.
Kishor Tamang, chairman of Thori Gaonpalika-2, said that an Indian national was demolishing the road in the presence of uniformed Indian security personnel. "After the locals protested why the road built on Nepali land was demolished, the Indians returned," he said.
The Indian side has said that they have come to open the bridge between the postal road and the bridge. "Even though a culvert between the postal road and the bridge has been filled, the flow of water in India has not stopped," said Ward Chairman Tamang. "Only one of the three culverts has been used by Nepalis." Two streams used to flow towards India. Even though one culvert was filled for the operation of the bridge, water is still flowing in one culvert towards India.

Due to the obstruction of the Indians, the bridge has not come into use even after two years of its completion. Ward chairperson Tamang claims that the bridge will not be operational until a road is built between the postal road and the bridge. On Thursday evening, the Indian security personnel who came to demolish the road informed the Chief District Officer of Parsa and told the people of Thori.
A meeting of people's representatives and locals of wards one, two and three on Friday morning has urged the people to find a solution to the problem by visiting the site. 'How many more days will the people of Thori not use the bridge for the same reason? Wards 2 and 3 are cut off during the rainy season and even ambulances cannot come. The midwife died when the Pohor ambulance could not come, 'said ward president Tamang.' You want a comfortable environment. We had to come to the spot and solve the problem. '
Chief District Officer Bishnukumar Karki did not come in contact with him in this regard. Assistant Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar Basnet said that discussions were underway between the two sides on the operation of the broken river bridge in Thori. "Discussions are being held with the staff of the Indian Consulate General," Basnet said. "It will be decided by mutual consent."
A 102 meter long bridge was constructed on the Thute River at a cost of Rs. 697.21 million in May 2075 BS. Two years after the completion of the construction of the bridge on the Postal Highway, it could not be brought into use due to the intervention of the Indian side. An all-party meeting of District Coordinating Committee Parsa Deputy Chairman Thakur Neupane, Village Municipality Deputy Chief and people's representatives of three wards had agreed to bring the Thute Khola bridge into operation.
The Indian side had also obstructed the construction of the bridge over the broken river. When the survey was conducted in 2067 BS for the construction of a bridge over the broken river near the Nepal-India border, the SSB had obstructed it saying it was Indian land. Due to which the construction of the bridge could not start for seven years. After the border officials of the two countries agreed on the border dispute in Thori in April, 2074 BS, the construction of the bridge was started at the same place where the survey was conducted earlier.
