Stakeholders have suggested that it would be fair to use the internal examination conducted by the school as the basis for the internal assessment of the students of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE). The government has decided to evaluate the students of SEE by the school and this suggestion has been made by the private education operator while the preparation of its working procedure has started.
In case it is not possible or practical for the school to take the written or virtual test again, it is suggested to evaluate the student on the basis of the previous test. Tika Puri, chairperson of the Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON), said that the school should not exaggerate and abuse the issue of evaluating its students. He said that the time has come for the examination of teachers, schools and headmasters. He said that the final decision should be made on the basis of the previous examination of class 10 rather than some schools taking the examination and some not. Many schools offer first graders, It has been found that the second and final exams have been taken three times. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City, on the other hand, had directed the subordinate schools to conduct examinations four times for the students studying in class 10. Explaining that they have been demanding the school to give the responsibility of evaluating the students for a long time, Pabson Chairman Puri expressed the view that this responsibility should be fulfilled.
Rituraj Sapkota, president of the National Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (NPSON), pointed out the danger of the headmaster dominating the internal assessment of students and said that there was a need to consider it. He said that the subject teacher should be given the right to evaluate the students. Sapkota said that the responsibility given to the school and teachers should be utilized this time due to special circumstances.
He said that the decision can be made on the basis of first, second and final examination. He said that in some cases, the students have to work harder in the final examination than the internal ones and even get excellent marks. "Some schools have not taken the CENTUP exam for class 10, which could lead to problems in assessment," said Sapkota.
Government officials have stated that the government's decision will be implemented by formulating its working procedure. Last Wednesday's cabinet meeting had decided not to take the SEE examination of class 10 due to the corona virus (Covid-19).
